How to Start Your Yoga Teaching Career

Graduating from a yoga teacher training course from Koh Phangan, Thailand is the beginning of a long journey. Here’s how to prepare for your career with confidence.
There has never been more demand for guidance towards achieving inner growth and better health, perhaps because of the stressful and unsettling times we live in today. However, despite the many yoga centers in Thailand mushrooming throughout urban centers globally, very few of them are actually dedicated to the essence of yoga, and most students are left wanting more.

Is it Possible to Make a Living as a Yoga Teacher?
Yes, it is. Teaching yoga is a great way to serve others and can be a very satisfying career path if you take the right steps. However, very few yoga teacher training courses in Koh Phangan give you a roadmap towards building a viable living from it.

The Three Traits of Great Yoga Teachers
Ø Walking the Talk. Yoga Teachers who have a deep knowledge of yoga philosophy, a serious daily practice, and are committed to living according to yogic values are very rare.
Ø Specialization. Most teachers are well-intentioned generalists who try to please everyone, and as a result end up floundering in obscurity.
Ø Having a Personal Brand. Even rarer still are Yoga teachers who know how to effectively build an authentic personal brand platform that enables them to spread their message to a large enough audience.
Ø
If you can do all three of these things effectively, students will come to you in droves.

The Three Working Scenarios for Yoga Teachers
You will find that most arrangements for earning a living teaching yoga will fall into the following three categories.

Working for an Established Operation. If you are employed at a fitness center, a yoga studio, or a dispatch agency, then typically you will be compensated according to the number of hours that you work. If you are their most popular teacher and biggest source of repeat attendees, then you have some room for negotiating better terms. If your employer allows it, you can augment your income with private classes.
Working Freelance. If you are teaching yoga on your own, it can be much more lucrative and satisfying. You are, in effect, your own boss, and you can set your own time schedule, choose your students, and expand your business.
Selling Products. In addition to teaching in-person, there are opportunities to publish your own videos, courses, books, and products. These are things that are scalable, and can lead to generating real wealth.
Regardless of which career path choices you make, there are no short-cuts. If yoga is your calling, and you have the patience to teach others, you can make a good living from it if you are prepared to put in consistent hard work over many years.

You can’t just walk into an established studio that employs experienced professional yoga teachers in Thailand and expect to be handed a prime teaching position. Simply graduating from a yoga teacher training course is not enough to become a yoga teacher. In fact, it’s just the beginning of a long journey. Give some thinking to your decision to become a yoga teacher, do some research, plan out the venture, and prepare your launch with confidence.

While your mission is aiding the personal growth of your students, your work also needs to be rewarding for you in order to be sustainable long-term.
